Finland from South to North - from Helsinki to Rovaniemi

Pick-up your motorhome or camper. Get known with your new home on wheels. Stop at the next supermarket and drive to the first campground. Drive to Porvoo, a picturesque harbour city with a romantic historic city.

On your way to Imatra, visit Hamina and Lappeenrante. From mid June until mid August daily at 19.00 the watergates are opened to flood the empty river course. Traditionally with the opening of the watergates music from Jean Sibelius is played.

On your way to Savonlinna visit the "three-cross-church" in Alvar Alto and in Retretti the art gallery. The gallery is unique in that most of its exhibition space is underground. The highlight is the castle Olavinlinna in Savonlinna. In July the opera festival is taking place in the castle.

Stroll along the market place in Savonlinna, with numerous, different specialities stores. On your way to Koli visit Kerimäki. In Kerimäki you will see the largest wooden church of the world.

Full day to explore Koli National Park and Lake Pielinen. Hike on the local mountain and enjoy the nice panorama view.

Drive via Juuka and Tuusniemi to Kuopio.

Explore the area of Kuopio. On the market place visit the market hall which was built in 1902. In the market hall are approx. 30 different stores which offer regional products.

Halfway to Kuhma you pass Nurmes with its highlight the "Bomba-House". The "Bomba-House" is a reconstructed Karelian village. The blockhouses where built between 1976 and 1981. The model was a farmhouse in Suojärvi.

Visit village Kalevala, near the village centre. Village Kalevala is reproduction of old finnish villages with different exhibitions of finnish tradition. Every summer the festival of chamber music takes place in Kuhmo.

Visit the beautiful church in Lentiira and continue to Kuusamo, famous for winter sports.

Explore the area of Kuusamo with fishing, kayaking or hiking.

Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland, 10 km south of the Arctic Circle. The legend that Santa Clause is coming from Rovaniemi goes back to 1920. A big village was built in honor of Santa Clause.

Hike today on the local mountain Ounasvaara. Enjoy from the top a nice panorama view on Rovaniemi and the wideness of Lapland.

Drive via Levi to the extensive Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The park is covering 1020 km2, approx. 350 km of marked hiking trails, 14 nature trails and 3 visitor centres.

Today drive along the finnish and swedish border via vast forests to Kilpisjärvi. Kilpisjärvi is at the very end of the northwest of Finland. There is only 1 street "Four Winds Road" in Kilpisjärvi, right after the village you cross the border to Norway.

Get up early today - the drive is quite long to the highlights of this trip - the North Cape. After the long drive enjoy the midnight sun.

The North Cape is the northernmost point in Europe and a very popular travel destination of approx. 200'000 travellers yearly. During the summer time the midnight sun can be enjoyed during 2 1/2 month.

Drive along the Arctic Ocean across tundra-like landscacpe to Karasjok. In Karasjok you cross the border again to Finland, continue to Saariselkä. Saariselkä is partly in Urho Kekkonen National Park.

Saariselkä is a popular tourist destination. Enjoy the spa, take a hike in the National Park or visit a reindeer farm. Enjoy again the midnight sun.
